The NZ Aria, affectionately known as the Lockwood Aria, once again sponsored by Lockwood, has been a beacon of operatic excellence since 1946, showcasing exceptional vocal talent in a prestigious three-day competition held at the Sir Howard Morrison Convention Centre. This year, audiences can look forward to approximately 500 performances across various categories, including a special section dedicated to Māori songs.
Participants will compete in multiple categories, such as folk or traditional, light entertainment, baroque classical aria, and age-specific sections for under 10s, under 16s, under 18s, and the main category for those over 18.

Please note that entries close on August 25, 2024, with late entries accepted until September 13, 2024.
As the largest competition of its kind in New Zealand, the NZ Aria has gained recognition throughout Australasia, serving as a nurturing ground for emerging opera stars. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra will provide a stunning musical backdrop, enhancing the performances of these talented individuals.
Many past participants have successfully launched their careers in the opera world, both locally and internationally.
On the final day, ten finalists will compete for the Lockwood Prize Package, valued at over $20,000.
Audiences are encouraged to attend the heats for a gold coin donation. The finals on the Saturday evening will commence at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased closer to the event.
